Local Priorities

Anti-social behaviour

Anti-social behaviour including youths abusing members of the public and the illegal use of motor bikes in the local parks and various areas of Wakefield West.

We aim to reduce these incidents by providing high visibility patrols in the area, working with Wakefield Council and key partners to identify and proactively deal with offenders, and setting up days off action with the off-road bike team.

You can report anti-social behaviour to us by using our online reporting system or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org

Issued: 1 Apr 2026

Status Update

Anti-social behaviour continues to be a problem in localised areas within the West NPT area.

The more rural areas suffer from off-road bikes, and we have also seen the increased use of electric bikes being used in anti-social ways.

The Off Road bike Team have increased their staffing, and will be deploying in more areas over the coming months to tackle this issue.

Vehicle Crime

With the darker nights we have seen an increase in Theft from Motor Vehicle offences, often with insecure vehicles being the target.

We urge all vehicle owners not to leave belongings on display, and to always lock their vehicles.

We will be carrying out checks in residential areas and will notify vehicle owners if any are found to be insecure.

As well as putting offenders through the criminal justice system, the team will work alongside the local authority to secure Criminal Behaviour Orders on any persons arrested for committing Vehicle Crime.

Issued: 1 Apr 2026

Status Update

There has been a recent increase in the keyless theft of motor vehicles, especially Transit Vans.

Work is ongoing to identify the suspects involved, and crime prevention advice has been circulated via Community Alert.

The teams will be running engagement events in the coming months to encourage the public to sign up to community alert.

Vehicle owners are advised to check they have locked and secured their vehicles and also consider purchasing a ‘faraday’ bag to keep keyless fob’s inside to prevent thefts.

Actioned: 10 Apr 2026

Anti-social vehicle use and speeding

We will increase patrols in identified areas of demand and run speeding operations at these locations, taking positive action against offenders.

We continue to provide high visibility patrols to disrupt ‘car meets’ in the area to reduce speeding and anti-social vehicles use.

Work is ongoing with partners to resolve the issue in the longer term and there is a Public Spaces Protection Order in place on Tuscany Way, Altofts.

Issued: 1 Apr 2026

Status Update

Although the number of overall car meets has declined, we have seen a recent increase in calls for service as the car meets pass through the district.

Wakefield NPT officers have issued several tickets for breach of PSPO – mainly at Xscape, Castleford, as well as sending over 100 warning letters to vehicle owners.

The teams will continue the enforcement across the district.
